Almost everybody in the world loves watching movies; many of them are just excited by the fact of watching the much anticipated movie on the huge screen. While watching a good movie, we tend to leave our world of troubles and stress behind, and step into the conspiracy on the screen. There have been times when I have been too involved in a movie and have felt a bit let down when it got over. I wanted to stay with these amazing characters and be a part of their lives. When a movie has so much effect on the audience then, it is sure to be a hit.
For an enthusiastic filmmaker a film school is a place to learn and enjoy. The film school not only gives you the elementary skill set you need, but will also serve to mold your zeal and give you the energy once leaving school, to produce work on the one that is fresh and new. There are several schools in this country that have excellent reputations.
The California Institute for the Arts (Cal Arts) was created in 1961 by Disney, with an importance to animation. San Francisco State University has a film program, which was created in the 60's amid the political extent of that time and their course work is heavily partial buy experimental film. Then there is always UCLA Film School and USC as well.
In New York you have the Columbia University School of the Arts and NYU. Both these universities have heavy rosters of Directors and Film writers that have come up in the ranks at these schools. Every time I think of NYU I think of Spike Lee.
By the years the rise of various social revolutions took place all over the world, the same way making of film also changed enormously from the old dominating film studio to the present world of independent film. In the 50's, 60's and even 70's, the independent films ware identical with Underground film, art film, and foreign film.
In other words, an independent film is the one that is made out side the studio walls without any financial support or distribution options offered.
Producing an independent film has become very popular, and this is due to the public no longer being satisfied with the usual Hollywood formula. The audiences of the new era have become much more stylish and expect something special and unique every time they sit down to watch a film. Now a day the old Hollywood formula just doesn't reach the people’s expectations. It has been too boring and predictable for film buffs.
“I don't know about you, but this sounds like heaven to me. Whether you are a film aficionado or a filmmaker with a film entered, a film festival is an exciting experience and one you will want to repeat as often as possible.” These words are the experience of Chris Gore that he writes in the first 10 pages of his book "The Ultimate Film Festival Survival Guide". In this book he talks about going to Film Festivals all over the world and enjoying each and every one of them. There was a time when there were only few film festivals and people were not enthusiasts enough as the studio’s controlled every aspect of film making. However, with the rise of Indie films every state in the country had its own film festival. In California alone there is around twenty or more film festivals.
There was a time when films did not happen at all unless they were under the sponsorship of the some studios. There was no chance at all for a little guy getting his or her film out there. But now the whole thing has been changed. The little guy can show his films anywhere he want, this gave a call to the rise of independent film festivals all over the world.
